Saman Shams

CEO & Co-Founder

Mr. Shams has more than 20 years of experience in real estate investing with over $23 billion in total deals executed (including LBOs, mergers & acquisitions, equity, debt, and structured finance products). He was a pioneer in bringing institutional capital to SFR and was responsible for Colony Capital’s deployment of over $500 million with Strategic Acquisitions Inc. over a three-year span. Mr. Shams was previously the CEO, Chairman, and Co-Founder of American Property Group and a founder of one of the first national property management companies. He has a Bachelor of Science in Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mr. Shams was a UC Regents Scholar. He is also a private pilot.

Nick Gottuso

Executive Vice President of Lending

Prior to working at Apollo Square, Mr. Gottuso was VP of Originations at Genesis Capital. He brings over 20 years of operational experience relating to sales, marketing, production, and operations. During his mortgage career, he originated more than $10 billion in residential loans and has closed over 18,000 deals. He also successfully developed and sold two mortgage companies and has been a partner in two residential real estate companies, an escrow company, and a title company. Additionally, Mr. Gottuso previously served as president and CEO of Arcadia Capital Group and as Regional Director for AmeriFirst Financial.

Paul Blanchard

National Sales Manager

Prior to joining Apollo Square, Mr. Blanchard led Civic Financial’s largest sales team. He brings more than 30 years of sales management expertise in lending and financial services to his current position and is recognized for attracting and developing top sales talent. He previously headed GE Capital’s lending division from being a small market player to generating over $9 billion in production per year. He was instrumental in designing GE’s senior sales training program for their top international sales team. His real estate lending experience runs the gamut from fix and flip projects to rental property acquisitions or refinancing to bridge loan solutions.

Ralph Giannella

Director of National Market Expansion

Mr. Giannella is a real estate entrepreneur and has been a real estate broker, appraiser, investor, consultant, and developer for 32 years. He has bought, developed, and sold over $800 million in real estate including large-scale apartment buildings, condominium complexes, single family house subdivisions, as well as over 2,000 single family homes and condominiums. Mr. Giannella developed many high-end luxury spec homes in La Jolla with sales prices over $6 million. He is an original founder of the Bank of Internet, which he and his partners took public. He was also a founding investor in Southwest Community Bank in San Diego.

Derrick Grüner

General Counsel

Mr. Grüner has served as counsel for Strategic Holdings, Genesis Capital, and Anchor Loans. Recognized as a leader in his field, he is a frequent moderator and presenter at nationwide industry conferences and is also published, quoted, and featured in a variety of publications and trade journals. Mr. Grüner previously was a partner at a large AV-rated East Coast law firm and has nearly a decade of real estate finance experience. He is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in California as Registered In-House Counsel.

Ground Up Construction

Get rates from 7.99%, up to 90% LTC, with possibility of including soft costs


Multi-Family Stabilized Bridge

Purchase/refinance; expedite the loan process; allow time to bring to prevailing market rents.


Rates from 6.75% to 8.5%, up to 85% LTC, no environmentally sensitive products allowed.
